G E O R G I A

  • Buzz Line: "Georgia On My Mind - and its not Atlanta...but Tbilisi"
  • Eagle Eye: Georgia was dominated by the Mongals for years, then independent for just a few short years (1918-21) until the Russians stormed in during 1921 and then eventually moved out in 1991 during the break-up of the Soviet Union. Since 1991 had turbulent times but seem to enjoy their freedom from the Russians. I came across many Georgians who long back to the communist rule which assured an equally poor society but all were equal and had jobs.
  • Hot Spots: Capital city Tbilisi is a cool city built along the Mtkvari River. Lots of beautiful old buildings and some ancients neighborhoods. The treasure of Georgia is in the far north around the village of Kazbeki in the Great Caucasus Mountains (just south of the Russian border of Chechnya (close to Grosny). Also worth visiting western Georgia along the Black Sea
  • The Low-down: Get out into the mountains and small villages and monasteries to appreciate local customs and hospitality. Tbilisi itself is a nice city!
